Top 5 NES Co-op Games Of All Time
5) Jackal - Great jeep combat game that was perfect as a two player co-op game. The jeep was very easily maneuverable. You could run over people, which was a lot of fun. The unlimited continues made it impossible for you to not finish the game, but there was enough diversity between the stages that always made you want to play it again and again.
4) Battletoads - As charming and ass difficult a game ever developed. Even with your buddy helping you, you could never beat the game. But of course that was the beauty of it. When you're playing as a team, you always say after the game "let's try it again."Then after 7 hours passed without going to at least the next level, you'd blame each other. Ahh, good times.
3) Gauntlet - I know the NES version didn't compare with the arcade version of the game. It was an average game if you played by yourself, but with a buddy, it was like playing in the arcades. You had to be able to be unselfish sometimes when it cam to the food, as their was always one of you who had the poorer health. In hindsight, it really taught kids how to share.
2) Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers - If you think this game is just for a little kids, you are dead wrong. It also proves that sometimes licensed games can actually be fun. It was especially great with the 2 player co-op mode. I never got tired of picking up and throwing my fellow teammate across the screen.
1) Contra - What else could have been at the number one spot? You could even make the case, that not only Contra the number one co-op of game on the NES, but the greatest co-op game in the history of video games. Of course if we didn't have the 30 lives cheat, who knows what the legacy of the game might have been. I have never heard of any players who were able to beat the game with just the standard 3 lives.
