Tecmo Bowl

Tecmo Bowl NES

Before Madden was king of the video game gridiron, there was Tecmo Bowl. It was one of the first football video games to ever to use real players.

The game calling consisted of four plays, usually two running and two passing plays. If the defense picked the same play as the offense the play would be shut down. It was a very simple pick-up and play game. Perfect for the non-football fan as well.

One of the most memorable parts of the game were how unstoppable certain players were. Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl has to be the most dominating player in the history of all sports video games. He was impossible to catch once he was in the open field. A close second was Jerry Rice for San Francisco.

Tecmo bowl had a sequel called Tecmo Super Bowl. In the sequel, you had 8 plays to choose from. The sequel turned out to be the better game, but because the original was so loved, it will always be everybody's favorite.
