Metroid

Metroid NES

Another in the long series of revolutionary video game franchises that were developed by Nintendo in the 80s, Metroid brought the Sci-Fi element to video games. What "Aliens" did for the movies, Metroid did for video games.

If there was one word to describe Metroid, it would be atmosphere. The music had this subtle erieness. Add that to the dark graphics and setting, the game became an addiction.

Also, revolutionary for the fact that it was the first action game to have a female as protagonist. Obviously, you didn't know this unless you were lucky enough to finish the game. After a player finished the game, it would show the lead character, Samus, taking off her helmet, in a leotard, or in a bikini, depending on how fast it took you to finish the game.

Metroid for the NES spawned tons of sequels. All of them being excellent. It is a classic in every sense of the word.
