The Double Dragon Series

While, Double Dragon may be most known for its original arcade game. The arcade game influenced a great series for the NES.

The original Double Dragon for the NES had some shortcomings compared to its original arcade counterpart. Most obvious, was the exclusion of the 2-player co-op capability that made the arcade version so well loved. Despite this, the NES version had some interesting ideas. The most notable one being a fighting system, in which the player had to earn points in order to be able to pull off the more advanced moves. It was a great motivator for advancing through the game. Players had to see what moves they could unlock.

In Double Dragon II & III, the developers brought the great gameplay of the arcade version to the NES. Finally, you could play co-op with a friend as you go through an urban apocolyptic setting where gangs run everything.

The series influenced countless video games that turned into the beat-em up genre. Games such as Final Fight, River City Ransom, and Street Fighter to name a few.
