The Castlevania games for the NES proved to be the mecca for the series. There have been countless titles and sequels for other video game consoles. There have been 3-D versions of Castlevania games with top of the line graphics and sound, and they have all flopped.

The dark, gothic look and sound of the game instantly hooked the player into the story. Beautiful, for their time, the incredible design of the game brought another dimension into the world of 8-bit gaming. The game genuinely gave players a visceral experience of horror and suspense.

In the series, you play Simon Belmont who has to go through the castle of Dracula. On the way he has to defeat countless mummies, vampries, and other bad guys.

In Castlevania II Simon's Quest, The series added some great role playing elements into the game. Despite it being regarded by many as a very easy game to beat, it still could be the best ever of the series.

The third Castlevania, Dracula's Curse, returned back more to its platform roots. After hearing how easy Simon's Quest was for players, the developer, Konami decided to make this game doubly-hard. It is regarded by many as the most difficult game of the series.
